China, Beijing – On March 9, The Hina Group Chairman Dr. Hong Chen, in cooperation with SUNY Stony Brook, hosted the "Professor Chair Dr. Zhenning Yang" fundraiser dinner at Beijing's JE Mansion. Deeply grateful for the education that he received in pursuing his Ph.D in Computer Science which he received in 1991 at SUNY Stony Brook, Dr. Chen was honored to sponsor and host the fundraiser dinner.
Stony Brook University is a public research university located in Stony Brook, New York, and is one of the 62 members of the Association of American Universities, an invitation-only organization of the top research universities in North America. It is the second highest ranking public US university in terms of research. Given Dr. Yang Zhenning's 37 years of experience teaching at the university and worldwide acclamations for his success in the field of theoretical physics, Stony Brook University decided to create a Professor Chair honor under his name – the Zhenning Yang Professor Chair. In doing so, the university hopes to attract and develop more professors of Dr. Yang's caliber who can contribute to further scientific development.
In addition to Dr. Yang's wife Fanfan, Stonybrook President Dr. Samuel Stanley, and other highly respected individuals from across the globe, New Oriental Education Chairman Mr. Minhong Yu, Fashion Media Group Chairman Mr. Jiang Liu, Bright Oceans Corporation Chairman Mr. Wei Deng, Buzhi Pharmaceuticals Group Chairman Mr. Tao Zhao, their wives and other high profile individuals were in attendance at the dinner. Standing out amongst the other impressive donations, Mr. Wei Deng made a donation of $1 million USD, a sign of his respect for Dr. Yang's commitment to and success in the theoretical physics field.
During the event, Dr. Yang not only reflected on his lengthy experience, but also expressed his deepest gratitude to those who supported the fundraising dinner. He hopes that more people outside the field of science pay more attention to the power of science, and he hopes for further cooperation between China and the US on scientific endeavors. Finally, President of Stony Brook University Dr. Samuel Stanley thanked Hina for its support in hosting and organizing the event, noting that without Hina’s reputation and network within China, the event would never have been such a success.
